A Firethorn with no thorns! Pyracantha ‘Orange Star’ has all the best assets of other pyracanthas, but without the vicious thorns that can make pruning a challenge.
In early summer this tough and versatile evergreen is covered in small white flowers that are attractive to pollinators. The flowers are followed in autumn by masses of large orange berries that persist into winter, providing colour through the dullest months. Pyracantha ‘Orange Star’ works especially well as a wall shrub where the berries can be displayed to their best advantage. It is also suitable for growing as a flowering and fruiting hedge, providing cover for birds and food for foraging insects. This resilient shrub tolerates challenging conditions including exposed sites. Height and spread 3m (10ft).
