Description

This hardy evergreen fern lends both handsome structure and texture to shady borders. Polystichum setiferum ‘Plumosum Densum’ forms compact rosettes of triangular leaves arranged in a spreading, shuttlecock habit. The individual leaflets of each frond are finely divided and densely overlapping, creating a frothy, feathery texture. It is compact enough to be grown in a container or small border. Alternatively, plant it in drifts through larger borders, weaving between other perennials and shrubs. An excellent fern for all-year-round colour, texture and structure that has been recognised with an RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height and spread: 30-40cm (12-16in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Plant in partial shade in fertile, acid or neutral soil in a position that is reliably moist and cool. Ferns prefer a soil that is rich in organic matter so add some well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting.
More Info
Feed and water ferns regularly until they are fully established. Leave old fronds on over winter to protect the crown. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost around each plant in spring.
