Pinus thunbergii 'Kotobuki'Japanese Black Pine

Pinus thunbergii 'Kotobuki' is a popular choice for bonsai, but also a fine specimen for small and narrow spaces and container growing in courtyards, terraces and patios.

A moderate-growing, dwarf conifer, it is valued for its distinctive and graceful pyramidal form. This multi-stemmed tree bears sturdy, upright branches, densely clothed with foliage right down to the base. In spring, the young needles emerge as erect, white candles, creating a striking contrast with the dark grey-green mature needles that are short and prickly. This tough conifer tolerates nutrient-poor soils, drought, heat and salt spray. It is perfect for evergreen interest in all types of gardens and is well suited to coastal sites. Height: 2m (7ft).
