Description
Phormium ‘Jester’ is a pink and green coloured variety of Flax Lily. Its gently arching foliage is a soft pink with green margins, and if it gets a hot summer some red tubular blooms may appear. It is a striking, evergreen perennial which will make a dramatic and architectural statement wherever it gets planted. These versatile perennials are ideal for planting in beds, borders, and patio containers. In the winter they will need some protection from strong, cold, winds so it is essential to select a suitable position in a border or bed, and if it is potted up in a container, move before the winter conditions arrive. It will also appreciate full sun and at times some shade. Height and spread 1m (3’).

How to Grow
Grow Phormium on fertile, well-drained soil. Choose a protected position in full sun. Phormiums are well suited to mild coastal locations and can cope in poorer soils, but do enjoy a fertile soil - so it is well worth incorporating some well-rotted manure into the soil when planting.
More Info
Feed and water regularly until fully established. Once established, Phormium need little attention, but will require some winter protection should temperatures dip much below-5C (23F). Where winters are particularly cold and wet, it may be preferable to grow Phormiums in large patio containers that can be moved undercover during the coldest months.
