Description
A real sensation for your borders! Lightly fragrant blooms rise above a neat mound of glossy foliage, which takes on tones of burnished copper in autumn. The red buds open to reveal salmon-pink blooms that gradually fade to yellow, creating a fascinating tricolour effect. Peony 'Julia Rose' is an intersectional hybrid - a cross which marries the exotic looks of tree peonies with the herbaceous growth habit of herbaceous peonies, and often called an Itoh Peony. Height and spread: 90cm (36").

Culinary note: The petals can be added to salads, or cooked slightly and sweetened for a treat. Peony water was also once considered a delicacy and the blooms can be floated in punches. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow peonies in a sunny or semi shaded position. They prefer a well drained, rich fertile soil. This is best achieved by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or compost to the soil prior to planting, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Plant herbaceous peonies at a depth of around 5cm (2") below the soil surface. Planting too deeply may delay flowering.
More Info
Water regularly until peony plants are fully established. Thereafter, herbaceous peonies require little maintenance and will grow happily for many years if left undisturbed. However, they will appreciate a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost applied around the base of the plant in spring. Plants may take several years to establish before they produce their spectacular peony flowers.
