Miscanthus 'Kleine Fontane' is a graceful ornamental grass, that forms a mound of slender, arching foliage. This well-established variety is grown for its pendulous plumes of red flowers in late summer, which slowly fade to silvery-beige. This deciduous perennial is ideal for introducing texture and movement to the back of borders, breathing new interest into fading planting schemes well into autumn. Plant it among other grasses or dotted between broad-leaved perennials for a wispy contrast of foliage. Height: 150cm (59"). Spread: 60cm (24").

How to Grow

Grow Miscanthus grass in fertile, moist, well drained soil in full sun. Miscanthus Grass may resent soils that sit wet in winter. Prior to planting, improve drainage on particularly heavy soils by incorporating plenty of well rotted compost and grit.

Feed and water Miscanthus plants regularly until fully established. Cut back dead foliage and stems to ground level in early spring before new growth appears. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of Miscanthus grass every third year to maintain their vigour.
