Often called Box-leaved Holly for its similarity to the popular evergreen Buxus. However this reliable species is far less prone to pests and diseases, making it a useful and long-lived alternative to Box. This variety is slow growing, producing a flush of insignificant flowers in spring which are later followed by glossy, black berries.
Ilex crenata ‘Dark Green’ is perfect for hedging and topiary. It responds well to pruning and makes a handsome, evergreen background for flowering shrubs and perennials. Height: 400cm (157”). Spread: 250cm (98”).
