Ilex triflora var. kanehirae, or Ilex 'Impala' as it is more commonly known, makes a handsome shrub. The glossy green foliage forms an attractive backdrop for a sprinkling of white flowers in April. Shiny, black berries follow the blooms, attracting wild birds to the garden. With a dense, well branched habit, this hardy shrub is perfect for creating evergreen hedges, particularly in cold sites; it even copes well with coastal conditions. Perfect for creating year-round colour and structure in the garden. Height: 250cm (98"). Spread: 120cm (48").

How to Grow

Plant Holly trees in garden borders in any moist, well drained garden soil, in full sun or semi-shade.

Feed and water Holly trees regularly until they are fully established. Prune young Holly trees and formal hedges in summer, removing any damaged stems and trimming the remaining growth to shape. In later years free standing Holly trees require very little pruning at all.
