Pest and disease resistant, tolerant to heat and drought, and superbly hardy, Distylium is a relatively unknown evergreen that provides an excellent alternative to box and other low-maintenance shrubs. With layered branches, Distylium ‘Vintage Jade’ forms a low, spreading shrub with glossy, dark green leaves. It makes excellent ground cover or a low, informal hedge, requiring very little attention or pruning due to its lateral habit. A relative of Witch hazel, it produces tiny red flowers in late winter/early spring, but is really valued for its healthy, lustrous foliage which provides all-year-round colour and texture. Height: 60-90cm (2-3ft). Spread: 120-150cm (4-5 ft).
