Description

Boasting an upright, columnar form, Amelanchier ‘Rainbow Pillar’ is an excellent tree for small gardens and tight spaces such as courtyards and patios. Its erect habit also makes it useful as a feature tree planted at the back of borders, or in the middle of island beds. It is even suitable for growing in a large patio container.

Featuring multiple seasons of interest, it really earns its place in small spaces. In April, it is smothered in sprays of scented, starry white flowers accompanied by green foliage. The flowers are followed by purple-red fruits in late summer that are appreciated by birds. The seasonal display reaches an autumn finale when the foliage blazes gold, crimson and orange.

Amelanchier is one of the very best small trees for urban gardens or courtyards. A vigorous tree or large shrub, it is extremely hardy, easy to grow and tolerant of pollution. It delivers multiple seasons of interest and is especially suited to gardens with acid to neutral soil where it develops its best autumn foliage colour. The flowers are popular with pollinators whilst the berries provide a feast for birds, making it a good choice for wildlife gardens. Height: 4m (13ft). Spread: 2.5m (8.2ft).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Amelanchier are maintenance-free, and will only need pruning to keep them in good shape, or to remove any dead, diseased or dying growth.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
