Description
This ornamental cherry has been grown as a multi-stemmed specimen to produce a spreading 'shrubby' appearance. Prunus ‘Accolade’ is a deciduous, spreading tree that flowers abundantly, and slightly earlier than most cultivars. Semi-double, pale pink blooms smother the bare branches of this ornamental Cherry from early April. Throughout summer, the well-branched canopy of foliage casts valuable shade, before turning to brilliant tones of gold and yellow in autumn. This showy little Cherry makes a pretty specimen tree, and adds splash of spring colour to the edge of woodland plantings. Height and spread: 8m (26’).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow

Plant cherry trees in any well drained soil in a sheltered, sunny position. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole and drive the stake into the ground to support the tree. Staking after planting may result in damage to the root ball. Plant ornamental cherry trees at their original soil level and firm them into the ground. Fasten the tree to the stake using a tree tie, and water well.

More Info

Ornamental cherry trees do not suffer weed competition well. Keep weeds and grass clear from within a 30cm radius of base of the tree. In spring, while the ground is moist, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost around the base of the tree, taking care not to mound it up against the stem. This will help to retain moisture throughout the summer.
