Description
For a bright column of colour in your garden, look no further than Sambucus nigra 'Golden Tower'. This unusual variety will quickly grow straight up, without the usual branching out habit of other Elderberries, forming a tall and relatively narrow deciduous shrub. The Golden yellow leaves of 'Golden Tower' are deeply cut, as with other Sambucus nigra, which adds to the effect for a great architectural plant too, flowers will appear in tight clusters in summer which will go on to form the well known berries. Ideal for adding height to beds and borders or even as the centrepiece of a large patio pot. Height: 300cm (118"). Spread: 100cm (39").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. The flowerheads are commonly used in infusions, making a very common drink and can be made into a syrup or cordial. They can also be dipped into a light batter and then fried to make elderflower fritters. Both flowers and berries can be made into elderberry wine. For more details about edible flowers click here.

How to Grow
Grow Sambucus in any moist but well drained soil in full sun or dappled shade, plants will also survive on poor, chalky soils.
More Info
Sambucus plants require very little pruning except for general maintenance and shaping in winter. However, if they become too large after a few years, they will also respond well to hard, restrictive pruning. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.
