Description

A vigorous, easy-going flowering shrub that makes a fast-growing, flowering hedge or border specimen. Ribes sanguineum provides spring impact, with abundant, pendant racemes of pinkish-red flowers in March/April that are perfect for underplanting with spring bulbs. It forms a bushy shrub clothed in bright green, fragrant foliage. Ribes sanguineum survives in all soils, including challenging heavy clay sites. The flowers attract a host of bees and insects awakening from winter hibernation. Height: 250cm (98"). Spread: 150cm (59").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Ribes in a sunny position, in any well drained soil. Ribes odoratum will happily grow in a semi-shaded spot but may produce fewer flowers and berries. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Flowering Currant shrubs at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.
More Info
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Ribes requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the old stems to ground level.
