Description
Strong, hardy and reliable, this Flowering Currant is a deciduous shrub that is worth planting for its pleasant spring colour. With a fragrant foliage, characteristic of all plants of this variety, Ribes sanguineum King Edward Vii' displays pendulous dark red clusters of flowers early in the year which can develop into black berries later on. A low maintenance plant, that will happily grow in full sun, you will be able to enjoy this shrub for many years with very little effort. Height: 250cm (98"). Spread: 150cm (59").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Ribes in a sunny, in any well drained soil. Ribes odoratum will happily grow in a semi-shaded spot but may produce fewer flowers and berries. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Flowering Currant shrubs at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.
More Info
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Ribes requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the old stems to ground level.
