Despite its name, this intriguing citrus is no Lime at all! In fact it is a hybrid of Lemon and Mandarin. This unusual plant produces bright orange fruits with the sour flavour of lemons, and a rich, floral perfume. The leaves are aromatic, much like Kaffir Lime leaves, and can be used in the same way to flavour curries. The prolific fruits make a superb alternative to Lime, adding a tart, citrus tang to dishes. Boasting glossy foliage and sweetly scented flowers, the Rangpur Lime makes an attractive specimen plant for the conservatory.
Citrus trees are capable of surviving brief periods below 0C, but are best grown in large containers and moved indoors to a bright frost free position from autumn to spring. These trees are self-fertile and will not need pollination companions. Height: 3m (9’). Spread: 2.5m (8’).
Estimated time to cropping once planted: 1 year.
Estimated time to best yields: 3 years.
Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. For more details about edible flowers click here.
