Description
Glossy dark green leaves give this Cherry Laurel a rich and full appearance when it is displayed to its full potential. Prunus laurocerasus 'Otto Luyken' is a low growing, hardy, evergreen shrub that bears white upright flowers in spring. These flowers slowly become deep red or black berries which resemble cherries in their appearance by the autumn, much loved by garden birds. Useful as a low hedge or screen, this variety can be used to section off parts of your garden without losing light that other taller hedging plants will do. Equally at home in a shrub border or at the back of a flower bed where its leaves will help show off more colourful blooms during the summer. Height: 100cm (39"). Spread: 150cm (59").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Cherry Laurel plants in sun or shade, in any moderately fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Prunus shrubs at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil. When planting a Cherry Laurel hedge, position the individual plants at a distance of 75cm (2’,6") apart.
More Info
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Once established, Prunus plants require only occasional attention, removing any damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in summer after flowering. If grown as a hedge, Cherry Laurel can be trimmed from early to mid spring, and tolerates hard pruning when necessary.
