Description

Polystichum proliferum is an Australian native fern with the ability to create wondrous colonies! When a frond touches the soil, or a bud drops from its arching leaves, a new plant will spring up. This easy to grow, evergreen fern readily adapts to a wide range of conditions. Polystichum proliferum will tolerate drier soils than other ferns and light to heavy shade. The arching fronds are finely cut and create graceful dark green silhouettes. Perfect for woodland type borders that need an injection of colour and texture all year round. Height and spread: 60-90cm (24in).

How to Grow
Plant ferns in a sheltered spot. Choose a cool position semi-shade or dappled shade on fertile, moist, acid or neutral, soil. Hardy ferns prefer a soil that is rich in organic matter so add some well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting.
More Info
Feed and water ferns regularly until they are fully established. Apply mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost around the crown of each plant in spring.
