Description

This UK native fern is a frequent sight growing on stone walls. A testament to its resilience and adaptability, this hardy, evergreen fern can grow with or without soil. Polypodium vulgare can be tucked into rock crevices, tied onto moss and attached to tree trunks or grown in deep, moist soils in the mixed border – and will tolerate conditions from full sun to partial shade. It does require good moisture to establish but is drought tolerant once its spreading rhizomes have taken hold. Polypodium vulgare has a mat-like habit, with ladder-like, leathery foliage that is wonderful for creeping over rockeries, troughs and border edges. It will gently spread by spores, developing natural colonies to create that effortless, ‘wild’ garden look. Height: 30cm (12in). Spread: 60cm (24in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
