An exciting vegetable rarity suitable for greenhouse or conservatory
The small, yellow flowers push themselves into the ground to form peanuts
A decorative plant with pea-like leaflets
If you want to grow something really exciting this year, then our Peanut Plug plants are just the ticket! Yes – you can grow your own Monkey nuts at home! You’ll need a greenhouse or conservatory but other than that, they are quite simple to grow. They do require a long growing season, but our jumbo plugs provide instant young plants so you can quickly get ahead. Peanuts are not actually nuts at all, but members of the legume family, and they are fascinating plants to cultivate. They produce small, yellow flowers from which long ‘pins’ grow. These pins push the developing ovaries into the ground, which eventually mature into peanuts. These peanut plugs are a super fun project to grow with kids and a novel gift for the seasoned veg grower. Height and Spread: Up to 50cm (20")

3 Jumbo Plug Plants (KC7552)
Peanuts prefer light sandy soil and a long growing season. So, in the UK they are best grown in the greenhouse or conservatory in containers. At the end of May, when all risk of frost has passed, plant your young peanut plants into a large container, at least 30cm deep by 45cm. Water the plants daily in warm weather. When flowering commences, pegs are produced from the flowers which push the developing ovary into the soil – this is where the peanut will form. Each plant will produce multiple pegs. When the plants begin to die back in Autumn the peanuts are ready to harvest. Choose a warm, dry day and pull the whole plant out of the ground with their roots intact. Shake off the soil and allow the roots to dry out in the sun or a dry, well-ventilated area.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
