The Kew Flowerhouse range of seeds from Thompson and Morgan has been specially created alongside the experts at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew to bring the beauty of the garden inside. This outstanding range of handpicked seeds are perfect for enjoying in the garden or in the home. This range includes show-stopping flowers and elegant floral fillers ideal for a bouquet.
Flat umbels of lacy white flowers which seem to float over borders. The exquisite flowers of Orlaya grandiflora are composed of small inner florets framed by large outer ones, forming a pretty pattern which is reminiscent of lace-cap hydrangeas. Planted en masse, the luminous white petals have a shimmering effect, creating a soft haze which melds plant masses together, immediately capturing that romantic cottage garden vibe. Long straight stems and soft ferny foliage add to its appeal. Holding up beautifully in a vase, Orlaya is a a wonderful filler for indoor displays and a graceful addition to bouquets. Height: 75cm (30"). Spread: 50cm (20").

1 Packet (30 Seeds) (KC9712)
Sow Orlaya in trays indoors from March to May. Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost and cover with a very light sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place the seed tray in a propagator at a temperature of 15-20C (59-68F) or seal it inside a polythene bag. Keep the soil damp but not wet. Do not exclude light as this aids germination which usually takes 21 to 30 days.
When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7cm (3") pots and grow them on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When Orlaya plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Transplant outdoors in full sun in any moist, well drained soil at a distance of 30cm (12") apart.
Alternatively, direct sow Orlaya seeds outdoors where they are to grow from August to September, for flowers in the following year. Choose a position in full sun on well drained soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sow seeds thinly, at a depth of 3mm (&frac;1/8"). Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods. When seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to 30cm (12") apart.
