Description

Commonly known as Rouen or Chinese Lilac, this eye-catching hybrid is a cross between Syringa persica and S.vulgaris. The result is a free flowering shrub with much smaller leaves than the Common Lilac, giving a more airy appearance in garden borders.

From late spring, this hardy, deciduous shrub is smothered in panicles of dainty, mauve-purple blooms with a sweet and spicy perfume. Lilac 'Saugeana' has an upright habit with slightly arching stems when in full flower. It is a quick grower, but can be pruned to maintain a more compact habit. A magnificent choice for the back of mixed borders, and makes a lovely cut flower for early summer bouquets. Height: 3m (10’). Spread: 2m (6’,6").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

More Info
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Prune lilac bushes in winter or spring by removing any damaged, diseased or misplaced stems before lightly shaping the remaining stems. After pruning, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the shrub.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
