Description
Unlike some Syringa varieties, Lilac 'Madame Florent Stepman' is relatively compact, remaining a manageable size for the average UK garden over many years. In late spring, cones of snow-white blooms are borne above the heart-shaped foliage, filling the air with a sweet and evocative perfume. This spectacular deciduous shrub is easy to grow and always busy with the gentle hum of bees and butterflies. An elegant and useful choice for garden borders and wildlife areas. Trim a few stems to fragrance your home or add to early summer bouquets. Height: 4m (13’). Spread: 3m (10’).

How to Grow
Grow lilac plants in rich fertile, well drained, neutral or alkaline soil in full sun. Dwarf Lilac plants may be grown in containers if preferred using a loam based compost such as John Innes No.3.
More Info
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Prune lilac bushes in winter or spring by removing any damaged, diseased or misplaced stems before lightly shaping the remaining stems. After pruning, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the shrub.
