Description
The distinctive white blooms of Geranium pratense 'Double Jewel' make this a ‘must have’ variety for any hardy Geranium enthusiast. Elegant rosettes of white petals are suffused with mauve-pink at the centre to create a beautiful contrast. The blooms are borne from early summer above a loose mound of finely cut foliage. This charming perennial is ideal for plugging gaps at the front of herbaceous borders, and blends effortlessly into cottage garden planting schemes. Height: 40cm (16"). Spread: 30cm (12").

How to Grow
Plant geranium bareroots at the earliest opportunity following delivery. Should soil conditions prevent planting directly into borders (if soil is frozen or waterlogged), perennial geraniums should be potted up, watered sparingly and grown on in a cool position. Choose a sunny or semi shaded position on moist, well drained soil. Work some compost or general fertiliser into the top 20cm of the soil. Dig a hole wide enough to accommodate the bareroot with its roots spread out and deep enough that the crown of the plant is just a few cm below soil level. Backfill the hole with soil and firm the plant in gently. Water well to settle the soil.

These plants are lifted from the nursery field when dormant, and sent to you in late autumn or spring for planting. They often look dead on arrival, but they are just resting in the dormant period and will establish quickly for a strong start in the garden come spring. Set out in prepared soil in holes wide enough and deep enough to lay out the roots. Tread down the planting soil to knock out air pockets. Water well to settle. Apply a mulch to protect roots from cold temperatures. If conditions prevent immediate planting, set roughly into loose soil or a pot of compost (‘heeling in’) to protect the roots. The growth points of most bare root perennials should be set about an inch below the soil surface. New growth will appear in spring.

More Info
Water regularly until fully established. Remove old foliage and faded flower stems throughout the growing season to promote continuous fresh growth. In autumn, cut the foliage back completely. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure to the base of the plant in spring. Lift and divide hardy geranium plants every third year to maintain their vigour.
