An exceptional outdoor Echeveria with beautiful form and colour. Unlike most other varieties, Echeveria 'Devotion´grows into a compact, multi-branching plant, the stems supporting a dome of sculptural leaf rosettes.
Although this is a non-flowering variety, the vivid, evergreen leaves create plenty of colour throughout the year. The fleshy foliage is an eye-catching combination of mint green with contrasting deep red margins. With exposure to bright light, the red colour intensifies to a beautiful rich maroon as the season progresses. Unlike the waxy foliage of other types, the leaves of ‘Devotion’ are covered in very fine hairs giving them a velvety texture, hence its common name of ‘Chenille Plant’. This Echeveria demands little in the way of attention or watering and is winter hardy to -10º Celsius, providing it is kept dry. Echeveria ‘Devotion’ is a gorgeous specimen for a sunny, well-baked spot in a terracotta pot, alpine trough or rockery. Alternatively, grow it indoors on a sunny windowsill or conservatory. Height: 15cm (6in). Spread: 20cm (8in).

Grow outdoors in full sun, in a west or south-facing location in a very free-draining soil. Alternatively grow on a sunny windowsill indoors. Echeveria require very good drainage – growing in porous pots (e.g terracotta) and placing plenty of broken crocks in the bottom of the pot is advisable.
Keep the plants ‘tight’ in their pots and don’t be too eager to pot them up into a larger size. Echeveria are very drought tolerant, and if kept outdoors, will survive on rainwater during much of the growing season. Adopt a ‘Drenches between Droughts’ approach to their watering needs, ensuring that the plant has completely dried out before any more water is applied. Avoid allowing moisture to sit in the leaf rosettes or around the base of the stems. Applying an inch thick of mulch of gravel around the base of the plants will help this. Never leave plants standing in water. Do not use nitrogenous fertilisers on succulents, this causes soft growth that is prone to rotting. Occasional applications of low nitrogen cactus fertiliser during the growing season will keep growth vigorous but firm.
In winter, keep plants in a sheltered, dry location where they will remain as dry and free-drained as possible.
