How to Grow

Grow Dendrobium orchids in a warm greenhouse, conservatory or on a windowsill indoors with a minimum temperature of 10C (30F). From Spring to Summer Dendrobiums should be grown in partial or dappled shade. Avoid strong sunlight as this may scorch the plant. Mist plants daily to increase the humidity and water frequently, adding a specialist orchid fertiliser every third watering.


From November to February, Dendrobium Orchids should be moved to a brightly lit spot and watering should be reduced. Do not feed during the winter months. Keep Dendrobium plants barely moist throughout winter until active growth resumes in spring, in order to provide the plant with a dry dormant period.

Dendrobium orchid flowers may require staking to support their stems to prevent them toppling over as plants tend to become top heavy. Dendrobiums orchids resent disturbance and prefer to be grown in small containers, flowering best when the roots are restricted. If necessary, repot plants in spring as active growth commences using a specialist orchid compost.
