This rare, slow-growing, Chinese tree is very unusual and always attracts plenty of curiosity. In May and June, Chionanthus retusus produces clusters of fragrant white flowers with very long, fringe-like petals. The flowers are followed by blue-black damson-like berries which are enjoyed by birds. In the UK, Chionanthus retusus tends to form a broad and spreading multi-stemmed shrub. The leaves are a lustrous bright green and offer good yellow autumn colour. Mature specimens develop attractive peeling bark. It makes an interesting and unusual specimen in warm, sheltered locations with well-drained soil. Height: 4m-6m (13 - 20ft). Spread: 3m (10ft).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
