Description

The unusual textured growth and blue colour of this dwarf Cypress makes a unique focal feature for a rock garden. Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Chirimen' takes its name from the wrinkly crepe fabric used to make Japanese kimonos. Its densely textured foliage is a striking feature, with irregular, vertically branching shoots covered in crinkly, congested foliage in shades of blue/green. The slow-growing ‘Chirimen’ has a pyramid or columnar habit and makes a lovely textural accent for a sunny position with excellent drainage. Average annual growth rate 2.5 – 15 cm (1 to 6in). Height and spread after 10 years: 60-80cm (23-31in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Cypress trees in moist, well drained soil. Chamaecyparis prefers a neutral or acid soil but does tolerate chalky soils well. Choose a position in full sun.
More Info
Once established, Cypress trees require virtually no maintenance. When grown as a hedge, prune Chamaecyparis at any time between late spring and early autumn, taking care not to prune into older wood.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
