Description

Chaenomeles speciosa ‘Lemon Sorbet’ is the perfect colour palette for spring. From March to May the bare, thorny branches are studded with pale lemon, double cup-shaped flowers that associate beautifully with spring bulbs such as daffodils and crocus. The flowers are followed by fragrant yellow fruits that can be made into quince jelly.

Chaenomeles is a low-maintenance, deciduous shrub that adapts to most soil types, even coping admirably with heavy clays. The bowl-shaped flowers have a delicate, oriental beauty that belies the robust and easy nature of these reliable shrubs. They provide a burst of welcome early colour in the spring and their flowers are also appreciated as an early food source by bees and other beneficial pollinators. Chaenomeles form fast-growing twiggy shrubs clothed in glossy green leaves. They are extremely versatile in the garden. They can be left to grow into large, freestanding specimens or regularly pruned after flowering to use as smaller background shrubs or maintained as flowering hedges. Their bare branches studded with jewel-like flowers also look fantastic trained as wall specimens. For the best flowering performance, plant them in a sunny position. Maximum height and spread: 3m (10ft).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
