Flowering Months

This tall deciduous grass makes an attractive waterside perennial. Pendulous Sedge forms dense clumps of leathery dark green foliage with a gently weeping habit. Throughout summer Carex pendula throws up tall drooping seed heads, reminiscent of large catkins, which make a striking feature. This British native is ideal for planting in the wet soil around ponds and lakes, or to the back of damp borders and bog gardens. Height and spread: 120cm (36"). Planting depth: Zones 1, & 2 to 15cm below water level.

How to Grow

Plant Carex pendula into any reliably moist or boggy soil, or submerged in the shallow margins of ponds to a maximum depth of 15cm (8"). Choose a position in sun or partial shade.

Carex are very easy to maintain. Trim away the foliage that has died back in autumn to maintain a tidy appearance. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of Sedge in Spring.
