Description

Dense clumps of dramatic black foliage make a startling contrast with the tall, scarlet red blooms throughout summer. Canna ‘Tropicanna Black’ is an exquisite half-hardy perennial that brings a tropical feel to the garden. This majestic plant makes a fine focal point for exotic planting schemes in damp, sunny borders or beside the shallow margins of a pond.

Despite its tropical looks, this Indian Shot Plant is easy to grow, and can be lifted in autumn and stored in a frost free position until spring, to ensure a fabulous display year after year. Height: 150cm (60"). Spread: 50cm (20").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Canna plants in frost free conditions until all risk of frost has passed. In spring, Canna plants can be gradually acclimatised to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting them in borders, beds and containers. Grow Cannas in fertile, moist, well drained soil in a sheltered, sunny position.
More Info
Feed and water Canna plants freely throughout the summer. Faded Canna flowers should be deadheaded to promote more flowers. In late autumn, when the first frosts blacken the foliage, the rhizomes should be lifted and stored in barely moist peat, in frost free conditions. Rhizomes can be replanted in spring for another fabulous display.
