Description

Camellias are always popular for their showy spring blooms and glossy evergreen foliage. This elegant trio certainly won’t disappoint! Their double flowers are borne in profusion, opening from fat, pointed buds in April and May. We’ve brought together 3 lovely colours to pick from, so whether you want the whole collection or just one colour, you can be sure of a great display. Our Camellia Collection is perfect for planting in acid borders or patio containers making a wonderful focal point that will last for many years. Height: 2m (6’). Spread: 1.5m (4’).

Collection contains:

  • Camellia japonica 'Bonomiana' - Accent your spring garden with the striking and unusual pink-streaked double flowers. Blooming from mid to late spring, you can enjoy a long season of interest as this reliable hardy shrub unfurls bloom after bloom, each with their own unique markings for a varied and eye-catching display. Throughout the rest of the year, this ornamental shrub is densely cloaked with glossy, rich green foliage, providing an attractive, low maintenance screen as well as bringing structure and height to the garden. Thrives in sun or partial shade, a great choice for showing off in the front garden. Height: 3m (10’). Spread: 2m (2’).
  • Camellia 'Brushfield's Yellow' - guaranteed to give you a stunning spring display with its glossy leaves reflecting the sunlight, and the beautiful blooms opening to reveal their white outer petals and creamy-yellow ruffled centres. Make this shrub the centre piece of a spring display bed which will continue its interest throughout the summer months too. Height: 400cm (157"). Spread: 250cm (98").
  • Camellia japonica 'Doctor King' - Enjoy a flamboyant spring display of semi-double, ruffled pink blooms with prominent golden stamens. A neat and compact variety that makes a splendid patio plant. Its glossy evergreen foliage is dark and lustrous throughout the year, bringing valuable structure to the garden even when not in bloom. Like all Camellias it requires and acid soil. Height 400cm (157in) Spread: 150cm (59in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Camellia plants require a moist, well drained, acid soil in a sheltered, shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow Camellia plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3 and position in dappled shade.
More Info

Water regularly until plants are fully established. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed Camellias occasionally with fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds and strong early morning sunlight, as this may cause the buds to drop in early spring.

Camellias will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their roots from winter cold. Camellias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems and remove faded blooms immediately after flowering.
