Description

An exceptionally handsome evergreen fern. Arachniodes aristata ‘Variegata’ sports thick, slightly glossy fronds adorned with a lime-green stripe along the midrib. Planted in groups it makes beautiful groundcover for shady spots, associating well with other shade-loving perennials such as hostas and Carex ‘Ice Dance’. Hardy in sheltered, well-drained sites in mild parts of the UK, it may benefit from a thick mulch in cold areas. It also makes a lovely container plant for indoors. Height and spread: 30cm (12in).

How to Grow

Grow in moist, well-drained, neutral to acid soils in full or partial shade in a sheltered site. Hardy from -5 to 1, benefits from a thick winter mulch in cold areas. In cold areas the foliage may die back – remove any dead fronds in spring. Can also be grown in a container as a house or conservatory plant.

More Info
Feed and water ferns regularly until they are fully established. Apply mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost around the crown of each plant in spring.
