Vine weevil nematodes offer a highly effective natural treatment to stop vine weevil destroying the roots of your plants. Vine weevil nematodes are microscopic transparent worms (Heterorhabditis megidis) which feed and multiply inside the larva. The nematodes seek out and kill vine weevil larvae.
When to apply:
It is best to apply when the larvae are active in late Spring and early Autumn. High infestations may need two applications.
For pots and open ground you should apply from March to May and then a second application from August to October. This is when the vine weevil larvae are present and the soil is above 5ºC (40ºF). If applying under cover the pests life cycle is broken and Nemasys Vine Weevil Killer can be applied at any time, as long as the soil is above 5ºC (40ºF). Apply directly to the soil around the roots which is where the larvae will be feeding.
Autumn use is the most effective as the larvae are younger and have not caused significant damage to plants at that time.
The nematodes come complete with instructions and can be applied using a watering can or nematode applicator. You just apply to moist soil when the soil temperature is above 5ºC (41ºF) and ensure the soil.
