Flowering Months

Upright branching stems produce candelabras of tiny blue flowers throughout the summer months. This eye-catching species is one of the showiest of the hardy Verbenas. Its tall stems make superb cut flowers, and are best positioned towards the back of the border, where they make a lovely focal point. Verbena hastata 'Blue Spires' blends nicely into cottage garden schemes and associates particularly well with tall grasses in prairie borders. Find it a sheltered spot and it will return year after year. Height: 120cm (48"). Spread: 45cm (18").

How to Grow

Plant Verbena outdoors in a sheltered position in any moist, well drained soil in full sun or semi shade.

Feed and water plants regularly until they are fully established. In autumn, apply a dry mulch of bark chips or straw to protect the crown of the plant throughout the winter months. Cut back the old stems when new shoots emerge at the base of the plant in spring.
