Description
These woodland beauties aren’t the easiest of plants to grow, but your efforts will be rewarded with an intriguing display of spring flowers. The flowers are highly variable and may appear as white, yellow or purple – but generally they emerge dark crimson. Over time the 3-lobed leaves will form a spreading clump for the patient gardener. This special hardy perennial is ideal for creating woodland ground cover in damp, shaded areas. Height: 50cm (20"). Spread: 30cm (12").

How to Grow
Grow Trillium plants in fertile, rich soil which remains reliably moist, but well-drained. These woodland plants enjoy a position in shade or dappled shade.

These plants are lifted from the nursery field when dormant, and sent to you in late autumn or spring for planting. They often look dead on arrival, but they are just resting in the dormant period and will establish quickly for a strong start in the garden come spring. Set out in prepared soil in holes wide enough and deep enough to lay out the roots. Tread down the planting soil to knock out air pockets. Water well to settle. Apply a mulch to protect roots from cold temperatures. If conditions prevent immediate planting, set roughly into loose soil or a pot of compost (‘heeling in’) to protect the roots. The growth points of most bare root perennials should be set about an inch below the soil surface. New growth will appear in spring.

More Info
Feed and water regularly until fully established. Trilliums take some time to settle in and should be left undisturbed once established. A generous mulch of leaf mould should be applied in autumn.
