Description

Plant a carpet of colour with our 'Bulbs in the Green' Collection. Once established, these easy to grow, native bulbs require little maintenance. They will quickly cover the ground beneath deciduous trees and shrubs, or naturalise in grass for a spectacular springtime display.

Bulbs supplied 'in the green', means that they have just flowered. Being supplied in current growth means the plants will be much easier to establish in your own garden.

    Collection comprises:
  • English Bluebells- The nodding, violet-blue flowers of these hardy, native bulbs attract insects to their delicately scented flowers. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 8cm (3").
  • Snowdrops - Drifts of graceful nodding snowdrops signal winters end with an understated elegance. Height: 15cm (6"). Spread: 10cm (4").
  • Aconites - A springtime carpet of golden/yellow blooms that will quickly multiply. Height: 8cm (3"). Spread: 5cm (2").
  • Double Snowdrops - Traditional native snowdrops with double blooms for an extra touch of elegance. Height: 15cm (6"). Spread: 10cm (4").

How to Grow
Plant bulbs in the dappled shade of deciduous trees. The bulbs in this collection thrive in reliably moist, well drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting to improve less than ideal soils. Plant snowdrop and bluebell bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4") and a distance of 10cm (4") apart. Aconites should be planted at a depth of 5cm (2") and a distance of 5cm (2") apart. For natural looking drifts of flowers, gently cast the bulbs across the planting area and plant them where they land!
More Info
These bulbs require reliably moist soil throughout summer. Water them if necessary until they are fully established. When growing bulbs in the green, it is essential to allow their foliage to die back naturally as this will feed the bulbs for the following year. Where bulbs are naturalised in grass, avoid mowing the area until their foliage has died back. Caution: Bulbs are harmful if eaten and may irritate the skin and eyes.
