Description
Now here’s something a little different for your garden! Sollya heterophylla is better known as the Bluebell Creeper. Its twining stems are cloaked in evergreen foliage that makes a splendid backdrop for its nodding, sky blue flowers throughout summer. This half-hardy climber is perfect for growing in the conservatory, and will even thrive outdoors in the mildest parts of the UK. Alternatively, grow it in patio containers that can be moved into a heated greenhouse during the winter months. . Height: 2m (6', 6"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow

The Bluebell Creeper is half hardy and requires a minimum temperature of -5°C (23°F), so it is best grown over an obelisk in a patio container that can be moved indoors for the winter. Alternatively grow it in a warm conservatory or heated greenhouse. Pot up Sollya plants into containers of loam based compost such as John Innes No.2.

In very mild areas, try growing Sollya heterophylla outdoors where it looks superb twining through shrubs or against sheltered walls and fences. Plant in rich fertile, well drained soil in a sheltered position in sun or semi-shade.

More Info
From May to October move containers of Sollya heterophylla outdoors to a sheltered sunny position. Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. Before the first frosts, return Bluebell Creeper plants to a bright warm greenhouse or conservatory for the winter and water sparingly until spring. In spring, cut back the flowered shoots to 2-4 buds from the main sideshoots.
