Skimmia japonica ‘Exstase’ is a male variety bred especially for its abundant, large panicles of attractive dark red winter buds that retain their colour for much longer than other varieties. The buds open into fragrant white flowers in April-May that provide a valuable early food source for pollinators.

One of the Gold Series®, this Skimmia features a strong root system and greater resistance to pests. It forms a dense, spherical plant composed of dark green, leathery, slightly wavy leaves. Naturally compact, this low-maintenance shrub only reaches about a metre high and does not require any pruning.
