A carefully selected mix of native wildflowers designed specifically to attract solitary bees, honey bees and bumblebees. Each seed ball contains approximately 30 seeds from a mix of Birdsfoot Trefoil, Foxglove, Red Clover, Viper’s Bugloss and Wild Marjoram – all recommended as bee-friendly plants by the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. Each seed ball also contains a sprinkling of pollinator-friendly annuals Chamomile, Cornflower, Corn marigold, and Night-flowering catchfly.
Each tube of Bee Mix contains 12 seed balls, enough to cover 1 metre square in a garden bed or 3-5 medium sized pots (leave at least 10cm between each ball).
Throw onto soil or compost in a garden bed or planter in Spring or Autumn, leaving at least 10cm between each ball. Your Seedball has everything it needs to grow and, once the ball becomes moist and the temperature is right, your seeds will germinate.
Wildflowers are naturally slow to grow and the balls can take 2-4 weeks to begin to sprout. Some will flower in the first year and others may not flower until the second year, but the display should keep improving each year. The more they are initially watered, the quicker they will be to start to grow, although these will be ok to leave them to the rain to water them as well.
The balls are made from a mixture of UK wildflower seeds, clay, peat-free compost and chilli powder. The outer clay protects means that the seeds are inaccessible to ants & birds, and once sufficient water has permeated the clay, the seeds inside begin to germinate - helped along by the nutrients and minerals contained within the ball. The chilli powder continues to deter slugs and snails while the seed ball slowly degrades and the seeds sprout.
All cardboard packaging (including the Seedball packs) is made from 100% recycled card and vegetable inks and can be safely composted.
