Description

A hardy, deciduous, climbing shrub, for a sunny or part shaded position. Schizophragma hydrangeoides is commonly known as the Climbing Hydrangea for its Hydrangea-like, creamy-white, lace cap flowers which are borne in flat topped clusters during June and July. The ovate, toothed, rich green leaves cover the woody stems, creating a fabulous backdrop for the elegant blooms. Schizophragma hydrangeoides is relatively slow growing, but once established it will provide a magnificent wall covering that will give years of pleasure. This climbing shrub will need tying in to the supporting wall during the first few years but thereafter it will attach itself using self-clinging aerial roots. Height: 6m (19ft). Spread: 3m (10ft).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Schizophragma hydrangeoides ia any fertile, well drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded position. Flowering will be at its best when planted in full sun, however this climbing shrub also makes an ideal candidate for a north facing spot, coping well with cooler conditions.
More Info
Feed and water Schizophragma regularly until fully established. During the first few years, this shrub will need tying in to its supporting wall. Thereafter it will produce self clinging aerial roots which will cling to the wall without much further assistance. After flowering, cut back stems to 2-4 buds from the previous years growth.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
