The Kew Pollinators range of seeds from Thompson and Morgan has been specially created alongside the experts at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew to attract and support a wide range of pollinators, including bees, butterflies and beetles, as well as a number of other important pollinating insects. Helping these pollinators to thrive is hugely important for our eco-system as a whole and these seeds, in their striking packaging inspired by artwork from the Kew archives, will help to create the environment which they need to thrive, with varieties chosen to help a wide range of pollinating insects, including some night flowering plants to help moths which also play an important part in our gardens.
Scabious are commonly known as the Butterfly Flower for their nectar rich blooms which attract pollinating insects. This pretty variety produces pale blue pincushion flowers that associate beautifully with swaying grasses and other perennials in late summer. Scabious ‘Perfection Blue’ is easy to grow, and once established it requires virtually no maintenance. A lovely choice for a sunny spot in the garden, and makes a pleasing cut flower too. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 45cm (18").Useful Links:

1 Packet (25 Seeds) (KB7577)
Sow Scabious in trays indoors from February to June. Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost and cover with a very light sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place the seed tray in a propagator at a temperature of 21-24C (70-75F) or seal it inside a polythene bag. Keep the soil damp but not wet. Do not exclude light as this aids germination which usually takes 10 – 30 days.
When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7cm (3") pots and grow them on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When Scabious plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Transplant outdoors in well drained, neutral to alkaline soil that is not excessively wet in winter, at a distance of 30cm (12") apart.
