Description
Rose 'Queen Elizabeth' is an exquisite floribunda rose commemorating Queen Elizabeth II. With a tall upright habit and a profusion of long-stemmed pink flowers, this high-quality variety is ideal for beds, borders and cut flowers. Blooming from June to September, grow Rose 'Queen Elizabeth' as a specimen bush or plant several to form a beautiful flowering hedge. Supplied as high quality bare-roots, this hardy floribunda is robust and disease-resistant. Height: 150 (60”). Spread: 75cm (30”).

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. Rosehips and petals can be used in making syrups and the petals will add flavour to cold drinks or fruit dishes. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Companion planting: Try growing roses with garlic, chives, thyme or mint to help deter aphids and blackfly.

How to Grow
Plant roses at the earliest opportunity following delivery. To avoid the risk from the build-up of harmful soil organisms and disease, choose an open position in full sun that has not been planted with roses in recent years. Roses enjoy a rich, fertile, well drained soil. Dig in plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting roses and add a small handful of granular fertiliser to the planting hole.

These plants are lifted from the nursery field when dormant, and sent to you in late autumn or spring for planting. Set out in prepared soil in holes wide enough and deep enough to lay out the roots. Tread down the planting soil to knock out air pockets. Water well to settle. Apply a mulch to protect roots from cold temperatures. If conditions prevent immediate planting, set roughly into loose soil or a pot of compost (‘heeling in’) to protect the roots. Set these at the same level as they were in the nursery field – you should see a soil line at the base of the stem. Stake trees, taller shrubs and roses to prevent root disturbance.

More Info
Feed and water rose plants regularly and deadhead faded flowers. When growing roses it is necessary to remove any suckers that arise from the base of the plant, below the graft union. In late winter, begin pruning shrub roses by removing dead and diseased wood, and any rubbing or damaged branches. Then reduce strong young stems by up to a third of their length. Side shoots should be reduced to two buds. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant after pruning.
