Description

The classic crimson poppy. This heirloom variety bears brilliant red, large, 3-inch flowers, with silky, shining petals, borne on slender, swaying stems. Sow Poppy ‘Legion of Honour’ in broad drifts for a spectacular display in late spring and early summer. It's perfect for mini-meadows and wildlife gardens, the blooms attracting a host of pollinating insects. Or scatter it randomly through borders to create bold pops of colour early in the season. After flowering, the ornamental seedheads provide further interest and make a lovely addition to dried flower arrangements.

A symbol of Remembrance Day, these poppies will return year after year. Simply leave the seed heads to self-sow into disturbed ground and enjoy watching them rebloom the following season. Height: 60cm (24in). Spread: 30cm (12in).

Sowing
Direct sow Poppy seeds outdoors where they are to grow in spring or autumn. Choose a position in full sun on fertile, well drained soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sow seeds thinly, just below the soil surface. Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods. Germination usually takes 7 - 14 days. When Poppy seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to 30cm (12") apart.
More Info
Feed and water poppy plants frequently throughout the summer. Annual Poppies can be left to set seed and die back naturally, before discarding the plants on the compost heap. The fallen seed will germinate in the following year to provide a new display.

Caution: All poppies are poisonous.
