Description

A much sought-after and award-winning waterlily, which is the deepest red available. Nymphaea ‘Black Princess’ brings exotic drama into water gardens. From June to September, it bears peony-like, 12-15cm wide blooms composed of deep maroon petals that age to a sultry, near-black. New leaves open burgundy, accenting the colour of the flowers before turning deep green. A good selection for medium-sized ponds. Unlike many other varieties, the blooms remain open for long periods and have a light fragrance. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Depth of water: 40-70cm (15in-28in). Spread: 120cm (48in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow waterlilies in still water away from splashing fountains. Gently lower containers into the water and position them on temporary supports such as bricks so that they sit just 20cm (8”) below the surface of the water. As the leaves grow to rest on the water surface, the container can be gradually lowered to its final depth below the water.
More Info
Remove yellowing leaves and faded flowers regularly. When the leaves of mature plants begin to emerge above the water surface, lift them from the water and divide overcrowded crowns. Repot young portions of the crown and discard the older portions.
