The Kew Pollinators range of seeds from Thompson and Morgan has been specially created alongside the experts at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew to attract and support a wide range of pollinators, including bees, butterflies and beetles, as well as a number of other important pollinating insects. Helping these pollinators to thrive is hugely important for our eco-system as a whole and these seeds, in their striking packaging inspired by artwork from the Kew archives, will help to create the environment which they need to thrive, with varieties chosen to help a wide range of pollinating insects, including some night flowering plants to help moths which also play an important part in our gardens.
Fill beds and borders with this superb tobacco plant. Nicotiana alata is a tall annual with dense, weed smothering foliage when planted en masse. The summer blooms rise above the leaves on slender stems, perfuming the evening air with a sweet fragrance. Nicotiana is at its best when planted in swathes throughout borders, coping well in sun or light shade. A lovely choice for cottage gardens, wildlife areas and informal bedding. Height: 90cm (36"). Spread: 45cm (18").Show Codes
1 Packet (2000 Seeds) (KB7572)
Sow Nicotiana from February to April on the surface of a good seed compost and gently firm down. Do not cover the seed. Place the seed tray in a propagator at a temperature of 20-25C (68-77F) or seal it inside a polythene bag. Keep the soil damp but not wet. Do not exclude light as this aids germination which usually takes 14-21 days.
When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7.5cm (3”) pots and grow them on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When verbena plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Transplant outdoors in full sun or semi-shade on moist, fertile, well drained soil at a distance of 30cm (12”) apart.
Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten
