Description
Lychnis flos-cuculi s an attractive wildflower with bright pink star-shaped blooms, each petal deeply notched to create a raggedy appearance. The striking flowers of this hardy perennial appear in late spring and early summer and are loved by butterflies and other beneficial insects. Originating from damp areas, ragged robin will thrive in difficult clay soils, boggy areas or planted around the edges of ponds. Height: 70cm (28"). Spread: 40cm (16"). Planting depth: Zones 1 & 2 to 10cm (4") below water level.

How to Grow
Grow ragged robin in a sunny or semi shaded position on fertile, well drained soil that remains reliably moist in summer. Ragged robin is also suitable for clay soils, damp or boggy areas and around the edges of ponds with the crown to a maximum depth of up to 10cm (4") below water level.

Lychnis flos-cuculi will self seed freely. Deadhead faded ragged robin flowers to prolong flowering and prevent unwanted seedlings. In autumn, cut back the old foliage and faded flower stems to just above ground level to make way for new growth in the spring.
