Description

The sweet perfumed, late spring flowering blooms of this Lilac Duo are popular with gardeners. These hardy, deciduous shrubs are perfect for the cottage garden as they are easy to grow and make beautiful cut flowers. Great for growing in sunny borders, or as stand-alone specimens to to create focal features in the garden.

Lilac Duo comprises:

  • Lilac 'Katherine Havemeyer' - Elegant panicles of double lavender-blue flowers and heart-shaped foliage. The colourful blooms are rich in nectar and attract butterflies to the garden.
  • Syringa josikaea - Slender stems bear airy panicles of small, pink flowers with a sweet perfume. Height and spread: 3.5m (11').

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Culinary note: Adding the fragrant flowers to cream cheese or even yoghurt for a hint of lemon flavour. For more details about edible flowers click here.

How to Grow
Grow lilac plants in rich fertile, well drained, neutral or alkaline soil in full sun. Dwarf Lilac plants may be grown in containers if preferred using a loam based compost such as John Innes No.3.
More Info
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Prune lilac bushes in winter or spring by removing any damaged, diseased or misplaced stems before lightly shaping the remaining stems. After pruning, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the shrub.
