An easy to grow, half hardy annual forming dense, billowing mounds of feathery green leaves covered with starry blue flowers. Its habit is perfect for spilling from containers, hanging baskets and window boxes or softening the edges of borders and filling gaps between perennials. Laurentia ‘Blue Stars’ has a long flowering period, pumping out blooms from June to October without requiring deadheading. Plants are self cleaning, meaning spent flowers will simply drop away to be replaced with fresh buds. Height and spread: 30cm (12in).

Sow Laurentia seed on the surface of a good quality seed compost from January to March. Make sure that the compost is moist but not wet. Place in a propagator at 15-21C (59-70F) or seal in a clear polythene bag until after germination, which usually takes 10-21 days. Do not exclude light as this helps germination.
When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into 8cm (3”) pots and grow on in cooler conditions at 10C (50F).
When all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days and transplant them into their final positions in container, beds and borders. Plant Laurentia in full sun in any moist, well drained soil.
Feed and water plants regularly, particularly during hot, dry periods. Regular deadheading of Laurentia flowers will encourage further blooms to be produced throughout the summer and extend the flowering season.
