The Kew Vegetable range of seeds from Thompson and Morgan has been specially created alongside the experts at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Containing a mixture of colourful and unusual vegetables plus reliable staples, they have been specially selected to bring variety to your gardens and allotments as well as the kitchen table.
Extremely popular in Germany and Eastern Europe, these nutrient-packed roots deserve to be more widely grown. Possessing the crunch of a water chestnut paired with the taste of cabbage, Kohl rabi ‘Kolibri’ brings interesting flavour and texture to a variety of dishes. It can be enjoyed steamed, sauteed, roasted, stir-fried and stuffed or even shredded raw and added to salads and coleslaws. The leaves are also edible. This alien-looking vegetable is not renowned for its looks, but the bright purple uniform roots of Kohl rabi ‘Kolibri’ yield a handsome harvest. This fast-maturing vegetable will be ready within 8 weeks of sowing - be sure to pick them when they are young and tender. Height: 35cm (14in). Spread: 30cm (12in).

1 Packet (35 Seeds) (KC9741)
Direct sow outdoors from March to August at 4 week intervals, into a well prepared seedbed on any fertile, light, well drained soil in full sun. Sow at a depth of 1cm (½") and distance of 30cm (12") between rows.
Prepare the soil in early spring by adding plenty of well rotted farmyard manure to the soil to improve its structure and fertility. Apply lime to acid soils to reduce the acidity and lessen the risk of clubroot.
Thin Kohl rabi seedlings when their first true leaves appear, to a distance of 15cm (6") apart. Cover seedlings with a protective netting or fleece to prevent attack from birds and insects.
