Description

A single plant of 'Daubenton's Green' will keep you fed with greens for life! ‘Daubenton’s Green’ is a shrubby, perennial Kale that produces mild, tender leaves for picking all through the year, including winter. Shunned by supermarkets due to its inability to store, ‘Daubenton’s Green’ is a superb, space-saving plant for the veg plot. Although plants do become exhausted after about 5 years, they are easy to strike from cuttings, guaranteeing a lifetime’s supply of nutritious greens. For a tasty snack, try tossing them in sesame oil and sea salt and roasting in a hot oven for 5-10 mins to make kale crisps. Height: 90-120cm (3-4ft). Spread: 120-150cm (4-5ft).

How to Grow
Grow kale in firm, rich, fertile, well-drained soil in sun or semi-shade. Prepare the soil in early spring by adding plenty of well-rotted farmyard manure to improve its structure and fertility. Apply lime to acid soils to reduce the acidity and lessen the risk of clubroot. When transplanting kale, plant it slightly deeper in the ground than it was in the pot provided. Cover with a protective netting or fleece to prevent attack from birds and insects. Water the plants thoroughly after planting.
More Info
Perennial Kale is exceptionally hardy and requires little aftercare. Water when necessary and hoe between plants regularly to prevent weeds from establishing and bring insect larvae to the surface. Harvest leaves when the plant is well established and growing well. Harvesting can continue through the winter. Leaves will quickly grow back but If regrowth is slow allow plants to rest for a while before picking again.
